Nepal has a patriarchal society in which most women are discriminated right from the time they are born. The society still has a deep rooted culture of preferring sons over daughter and justifies this act in the name of god and religion. A lot of girls are considered as “paraya dhan” (other’s property).

Women are also subjected to recurring domestic violence, dowry-related abuses, physical and psychological harassment by household members.

Similarly, the cases of women trafficking, forced prostitution, sex-selective abortions are plenty and must have serious interventions from all levels of the society. “Bato Ko Cinema” is a step towards abolishing these practices by spreading awareness among people of Nepal.”
